What prompted Graham and Sherill to seek advice?
Graham was a Head Teacher who took redundancy following a reorganisation. Sherill was a Deputy Head Teacher who would continue to work for another three years. Following Graham’s redundancy, they had a number of objectives, including:
- Maintaining their current lifestyle in retirement
- Enabling Sherill to fully retire in three years
- Ensuring that they had a healthy holiday budget in order to travel to long-haul destinations, particularly China which they were very keen to visit.
How did we help?
We completed an expenditure questionnaire based on their ideal lifestyle at the time and estimated future expenditure. We established how much capital should be made available to cover short-term expenditure for holidays and home improvements.
Following this, we considered what was available from all pensions for the remainder of their lives and agreed their shortfall in income. Once the shortfall was identified, we made investment recommendations to cover this amount and generate long-term capital growth. Our ‘Lifetime Financial Plan’ was demonstrated through a highly visual cashflow model which showed they could thrive in retirement as we continue to invest their portfolio.
How have Graham and Sherill benefited from our advice?
Sherill retired as planned in 2016 and they toured China shortly afterwards. They continue to enjoy a comfortable and active lifestyle in retirement.
